This is a hard journey no matter how you look at it. Lyme disease has taken many hostages in her fight. This felt bigger than the other battles. Lyme disease, and it's many co-infections has already claimed much. • Bron's gallbladder was removed six months earlier. • Respiratory problems, P.O.T.S., (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), • neuropathy that makes walking very difficult, • her vision is at 50%, • 8 molars have been lost • many gastric problems that were once thought to be Celliac's disease, lactose intolerance • migraines • memory problems • Bron has been in a wheelchair since 3 days after her marriage when temporary paralysis appeared in both legs. •urinary retention • seizures plague her in waves Recently discovered: • Gastroparesis (her stomach will not empty, allowing food to rot in her gut then come out which ever way it can, vomiting and/or diarrhea, • Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome together these 2 conditions almost claimed her life. This was the fight that lead to Drawing for Bronwyn | It took a colouring book, a sketch pad, courage and patience filled with much love and support through the ravages of Lyme Disease. Drawing for Bron was conceived during a week long visit to Kansas to celebrate Bron's birthday together. Art becomes a healer, an expression of feelings when there are no words, and accidentally discovered a bridge to better communication with the medical teams we encountered. The colouring book was by Fabrice Backes. I didn't want to colour in Bron's book so I did my own version of a drawing that caught my attention. So I wouldn't take credit for composition or originality on this project. However I am an artist and the raffle prizes are my original artwork. As the scanner kept scanning Bron's bracelet for each bandaid, med, tube, puffers etc I could see the concern on Bron's face of mounting costs for this young family. So we decided to raise funds and awareness by putting up some pieces I did for Bron's fight and for all who are fighting Lyme disease devastations. I put the first sketch I did on Bron's hospital room wall as something else to concentrate on than reading her med info on the board in front of her. Bron titled this one "Drowning". The nurses started to comment on the sketch when they saw it. |
