Waiting up against a few brick walls. | Bron was scheduled for surgery on the Tuesday. They re-looked at the results of the ultrasound and discovered Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome is a very rare, life-threating gastro-vascular disorder characterized by a compression of the third portion of the duodenum by the abdominal aorta (AA) and the SMA where the angle of artery is now at the wrong angle and being squeezed, due to a lack of retroperitoneal and visceral fat. Through the rapid decrease in Bron's weight this added to her problems. It was an extensive surgery to repair the SMA which was blocking even more of her semi functional digestive tract, and a "J" tube for feeding was placed in her jejunum, by passing the stomach that was not emptying any longer. We all waited with baited breath to see if all was going to work. Patience was the action of the next few days while Bron dealt with the extreme pain. I am back in Montreal ready to fly out to Kansas when ever necessary. | by Fabrice Backes from "The Little Match Girl" |
